Concerning Care Facilities: Red Flags and Green Flags

Care facilities are designed to house individuals in need of everyday support due to medical conditions, ailments or age-related issues. Residents of these facilities receive services that meet their personal care needs, are supervised to ensure their comfort and safety, are provided with social opportunities/activities, and more. While there are many reputable facilities that possess cleanliness, safe conditions, well-cared for residents, knowledgeable staff, and wonderful reviews, others are not as up to par. It is important to be mindful of any red flags when touring or visiting a care center.

Our Aqua Home Care team refers trusted caregivers from our registry who assist their clients right at home, though we also refer caregivers who provide additional support at care facilities. In working with care centers, we would like to share what to look for and watch out for should you or a loved one be in search of a nursing home environment.

  • Unkempt surroundings

Green Flags

  • Knowledgeable, courteous staff

  • Shower chairs, sturdy support railings, accessibility features, accessible call buttons, etc.
  • Well-lit spaces
  • Resident rooms and common areas are clean
  • Walking areas are clear of tripping hazards and fall prevention strategies are in place
  • Residents appear content and well-cared for
  • Cost transparency
  • Quality food
  • Quality care
  • Visiting hours are not restricted

Knowing what a reputable care facility encompasses is immensely important. When it comes to the safety and well-being of yourself or your loved one, quality conditions make all the difference. Should further assistance be required than is offered or should having companion care be beneficial, our Aqua Home Care team is here to refer a trusted caregiver who will provide such services at your or your loved one’s location.
