Parkinson’s Disease and In-Home Care

Often showing an early sign of its presence in the form of a slight tremor while at rest (typically felt in one hand), Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disorder affecting the central nervous system. Symptoms arise and progress gradually over the years and include bodily tremors, muscle stiffness, involuntary movements, mobility limitations, confusion, dementia, impaired speech and balance, difficulty controlling facial expression and more. Being a progressive disease, these and other associated symptoms may be mild at first; however, their intensity increases over time. While medications are available to help suppress some of these symptoms, there is currently no known cure.

We at Aqua Home Care refer in-home caregivers to individuals with a multitude of conditions, including those with Parkinson’s disease. For those experiencing the earlier stages of Parkinson’s, care on an emotional support level is mainly needed. As time goes by and symptoms become increasingly problematic, everyday living tasks and routines become more and more difficult, if not impossible, to complete. Seeking in-home care allows individuals living with Parkinson’s receive care right in their own home which can also help maintain quality of life. Our team finds knowledgeable, compassionate caregivers with training and experience caring for those with a variety of needs, including but not limited to those living with Parkinson’s disease. Providing an expansive selection of care options, caregivers can assist with meeting a wide range of everyday needs including:

  • Mobility assistance
  • Grooming, dressing and personal hygiene
  • Heavy house cleaning
  • Grocery shopping, meal preparation and feeding
  • Medication reminders
  • Transportation to and from doctor’s appointments or other destinations
  • Organization
  • Companionship
  • And more

Receiving a concerning diagnosis can induce a range of emotion. From fear and shock to anger and depression, one may also face anxiety about the future and everyday living implications. Living with Parkinson’s disease presents physical, cognitive and emotional challenges. If you or a loved one are living with Parkinson’s disease and are in need of in-home care, please do not hesitate to give us a call. We at Aqua Home Care are here to refer caregivers who will provide support and care right in the comfort of your own home with the experience, compassion, and quality you deserve.
