Post-Stroke Care

A stroke is a serious medical emergency that occurs when there is a sudden interruption in the blood supply to the brain. Cells in the brain become deprived of the oxygen they need to survive, leading to brain damage and possible fatal outcomes. Signs of a stroke include numbness/weakness on one side of the face, an arm or leg, headache, and a decrease in or loss of balance, vision, speech, and level of understanding. The aftermath of a stroke varies from person to person as the effects from a stroke depend on the area of the brain affected and to what degree it was compromised. Physical, cognitive and emotional changes including paralysis, incontinence, muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing, seizure, memory loss, difficulty expressing oneself through speech or writing, difficulty understanding speech, reasoning difficulties, depression and other effects can result in varying degrees.

Those who have experienced a stroke require some level of care afterward, and this may result in having to enter a care facility or relying on a family member. Aqua Home Care has been referring trusted in-home caregivers to residents of the Treasure Coast and surrounding areas to those who wish to receive the care they need right in the comfort of their own home.
